A new skill for the teaching Mamas
Issued by: Clover

At the core of the Clover Mama Afrika Corporate Social Investment (CSI) project is the development and empowerment of people. The latest skill that the Mamas acquired is the creation of visual teaching aids. Tony Lamberti of Craft-Ed's Live & Learn programme recently taught the Mamas how to use a die-cut machine and stencils to create effective training material to teach the young ones in their centres.

Tony Lamberti from Craft-Ed teaches Mamas Selina and Pumla the Live & Learn techniques.

Visual teaching material made by the Mamas during the one-day workshop.

Selina of Thabong, Felicity of Ennerdale and Mamas Rosemary of Mangaung and Pumla of Mfuleni successfully completed their one-day workshop.
Four Clover Mama Afrikas who also happen to be avid nursery school teachers, Mamas Rosemary of Mangaung, Pumla of Mfuleni and teachers Selina of Thabong and Felicity of Ennerdale attended a one-day workshop with Craft-Ed in Johannesburg.

Craft-Ed's Live & Learn programme aims to teach children with various visual tools that are made by the teachers themselves. By using a die-cut machine and various stencils, teachers can create effective training material that is educational and a fun and creative outlet for the children.

Says Mama Rosemary: “The children learn with what they feel and see. This teaching technique will boost their confidence. I am excited to be able to put together visual information.” Mama Pumla agrees: “I am going to get the children to help me put together the next set of training programmes. By helping to cut and paste, the children are having fun and they are learning too.”

Tony was amazed by how fast the Mamas acquired the new skills. “The passion that these Mamas have is overwhelming. I had a wonderful time teaching them the techniques. They are fast learners,” says Tony.

Good news is that this workshop will be extended to all Mamas that are teaching pre-schoolers. This new skill will also give them the opportunity to generate an income by offering this service to other pre-school teachers in their respective areas.
