Call for entry: Name that icon

The Glass Recycling Company's intrepid new hero is without a name. So this South African national organisation, responsible for facilitating the recovery of waste glass for recycling, is calling all creative minds to help with the naming of its mascot.
The genius behind the development of the most fitting name will win cash to the tune of R5 000, but most importantly, will be forever remembered as the person who christened the friendly face of South African glass recycling!

Judging criteria for submissions:
  • Interpretation of the competition brief.
  • The recall of the name and its memorability.
  • The talk-value and novelty of the name.
  • Impact of name with the broader South African audience - ease of translation appeal (if appropriate).
  • Appeal of the name across different age groups.
  • Does it have a subtle meaning that demands interpretation or can it be taken at face value.
  • Does the name marry with the image of the bottle.

Competition rules:
  • All entries must be made in writing to SIMONSAYS Communications by no later than 15 October 2008.
  • The winner will be notified telephonically and in writing.
  • Prizes are not transferable and will be presented to the winner within the month of the announcement of the competition (October 2008).
  • By entering this competition, all participants and winners agree to be bound by these rules, which will be interpreted by the organisers and judges.
  • The judge's decision regarding the winner will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The Glass Recycling Company employee's and family members may not enter this competition.
  • The Glass Recycling Company reserves the right to publicise the details of the competition in the local media, including details of the submissions received and the winner.
  • The Glass Recycling Company reserves the right to use the name developed going forward for all and any communication and marketing campaigns that it so chooses.
  • Should no competition entries be found fitting The Glass Recycling Company will decide whether to rerun the competition or withdraw it.
