The accord - signed by the North West Local Government and Human Settlements MEC Galaletsang Gaolaolwe and Human Settlements minister Nomaindiya Mfeketo - will be in force for almost a year.

It gives effect to the Cabinet decision to place the North West Provincial Government under of Section 100 (1) and subsequently, the department under Section (100)(1)(a) of the Constitution.

Delivering adequate housing

The agreement will essentially help the North West Local Government and Human Settlements Department to fulfil its obligation of delivering adequate housing. It spells out the steps and measures to be undertaken by the National Department of Human Settlements to rectify the failures of the North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements.

The agreement also stipulates the resources required to successful implement the intervention in order to restore normality and functionality in that province.

An intervention action plan has also been developed to ensure the appointment of competent contractors, effective management of contractor performance, improvement of beneficiary management, and to enhance communication and organisational operations.
