Namibia Tourism launches mobile website with an introduction to Namibia and all its tourist attractions. This new and innovative way to bring a country's best attributes to any mobile could shake the way the travel industry currently operates. Potential travellers to this country or inquisitive mobi site surfers can look forward to a site encompassing all the need-to-knows of Namibia in a pretty little package.
Namibia, the country of amber dunes and perfect sunsets launches their mobile website. With many important sporting events happening in Africa during this year and the next, a mobi site becomes more than just a nice add-on for travellers, but an essential one.
"Currently the mobi site is an introduction to Namibia as a destination,” said Chantal Matthee, Manager - Namibia Tourism Board, Johannesburg. Prospective travellers to Namibia and keen mobi site “surfers” can view anything from the weather to the best attractions of the country, travelling tips and requirements to travel there. Matthee says that in the future, “viewers can look forward to a virtual Namibia with added information at the click of a button.”
Creators of the “Discover Namibia” mobi site and mobile marketing experts, Yonder Media, assisted Namibia Tourism with the easiest and most cost-effective way to introduce mobile into their strategy. “This is a great advancement for the travel industry. Seeing that travellers are on the go, they now can access vital information about Namibia in the palm of their hands,” Reghardt van der Westhuizen, Accounts Manager of Yonder Media, stated.
Mobile as a medium is still a new concept for companies in South Africa to grasp and include as part of their marketing budget. However, companies like Shoprite, Supersport, and Edcon have seen the possibilities and now reap the benefits from their mobile approach. “We are now able to undertake methods to communicate with the consumer by using the medium we know for a fact they will have on them 24/7 - their mobiles! Mobile phones are people's lifelines and any information is readily available,” Matthee commented.
In South Africa alone there are over 40 million mobile phone users, making internet access through this medium a necessity. Mobi sites however, work on GPRS costs, meaning mobi site “surfers” pay as little as two cents (per day) for surfing WAP sites. Yonder Mobile Media wisely spent their time and resources on developing and integrating various mobile advertising solutions and have mobilized various clients since 2002. They have been offering their services to agencies and different brands as a one-stop mobile advertising partner that understands and meets all their mobile marketing needs, and have made a difference in many an advertising campaign.
