Nigeria Mobile Football Trivia game kicks off with the English Premiership

Starfish Mobile Nigeria has teamed up with Zain, a major mobile telecommunications company, to launch the second Mobile Football Trivia Game in that region. The latest game will be based on the current English Premiership League. The first mobile trivia game was launched in June and was based on the 2008 Euro Champs tournament.
Due to the successful first campaign in that country, Starfish Mobile International decided to expand a similar concept based on the premiership league.

The Football Trivia game officially launched in Nigeria on the 9th September 2008 and will run through to the 9th April 2009.

Participants have to answer questions based on the history and current English Premiership League. The users have to initiate a request in order to receive their trivia questions. Participants will accumulate points for correct answers and stand a chance of winning numerous prizes.

“The English Premier League is followed by millions of people around the World and on the African continent. Major teams like Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have a huge following in African countries. Some of the best African stars apply their trade in those teams and in the premier league, including - Essien, Kalou, Mikel, Sanga, Toure, Pienaar, Drogba, Eboue, Martins, Yakubu, Diouf and many others, making it a much loved and exciting league,” says Steve Morelli, Starfish Mobile International Operations Manager for Nigeria.

“I have no doubt that a campaign like this would be a success as the Trivia provides a fun way to keep up to date and learn a little more about the teams, players and the league,” says Morelli.

The main prize is a trip to London with a partner to watch a match between Arsenal and Chelsea live at the Emirates Stadium on the 9th May 2009. It will be awarded to the subscriber that earns the most points over the next seven months.

Mobile subscribers have a chance of winning weekly prizes including Blackberry handsets, airtime and high end mobile handsets.

Starfish and Zain have also created a web link on the Zain Nigeria website where participants can access the leading competitors in real time. They can also check their own ranking by typing in their mobile number. The site link will also show the weekly prize winners and have all the terms and conditions for this competition.

“This is a great addition to the campaign and we aim to make it interactive and fresh for all the subscribers taking part,” says Latunde Etiko, Specialist: Messaging and Content for Zain Nigeria.
