Down the Meerkat Hole
By: Harry Trisos

It seems to me that when some people are outmanoeuvred in the stakes for African dominance then the urge to release good news gets the better of them. Maybe this is what happened in MeerkatWorld® recently. Allow me to take you down the meerkat-hole (with apologies to Alice in Wonderland).

Meeting chamber 3 – MeerkatWorld

Present: 2 Koolkats and Koolkitten from Head Office.

Koolkat 1: Oh boy…. This has been a bad year for us. Apart from those silly bok dudes winning the Wassup Cup, we have nothing to crow about.

Koolkat 2: You said it dude. And the boss man has locked us in this brainstorm chamber until we can think up some good news! I don't know if we can do it. I'm starving.

Koolkitten: And I need to network with my Facebook friends soon or else I'll lose out on my pimping ratio… what are we going to do.

Koolkat 1. Just look at it. None of us were responsible for the mixt up deal last year. How did the NasPee tribe get into that deal before us? Oh boy, now we have to come up with something new.

Koolkat 2. And yes, if we had set up our tribe in Nigeria, then it would be different as well. And then some time ago… some kat came up with the idea to snuff out three million sims to raise our arpu. What was that all about.

Koolkitten: Arpu snarpu .. who cares, as long as you love your mother. C'mon guys, lets think about it and not get all mixt up.

Koolkat 1. That's it Koolkitten! [jumps up and does meerkat jive]

Koolkitten: What is it? …. hello. Just keep dancing while I video you so that I can upload it on my Facebook grid of friends.

Koolkat 1. THATS IT! Let's start up our own Facebook on mobile phones and call it …. The Grid.

Koolkat 2: Oh wow man. That's really cool but what about all the hundreds of other kats launching social network services. Shouldn't we rather concentrate on providing better connectivity to our customers and improve our arpus that way.

Koolkat 1: You're missing the point dude. This is not about the customers, it is about the good news.

Koolkitten: And what is more… then we will be able to administer our own mobile Facebook community and own all the data and make millions from it.

Koolkat 2: What do you mean? Are you planning to use The Grid to get more personal data and then drill down and market to all the customers?

Koolkiten: Oh man… you don't understand. We will push ads at them while they use the service.

Koolkat 2: Okay, but what about all the other social network services that have the same business model…

Koolkat 1: Listen here dude, if you want to get to lunch then come up with a better idea.

Koolkat 2: [thinks awhile] … Hey man, The Grid is a great good news story. Let's go tell the boss right away…. Wait, let's do it after lunch.
