Austrian Airlines reintroduces Cape Town/Vienna service

Almost 20 years since it last flew into the Mother City, Austrian Airlines has announced it will be reintroducing two flights a week between Cape Town and Vienna on its winter schedule.

“While Austrian Airlines previously offered flights to Cape Town between 1997 and 1999, we are now very happy to see the carrier once again servicing the Mother City,” says Dr Andre Schulz, Lufthansa group general manager for Southern Africa.

As of October 27, 2018, the airline will offer flights on Wednesday and Sunday from Cape Town to Vienna, deploying the new Boeing 777 aircraft. In addition to economy and business class, passengers will also already be able to fly in premium economy.

Starting this autumn, all Austrian Airlines long-haul aircraft will be gradually remodelled to include premier economy seats, which feature a larger reclining angle, more seat spacing and a broader seating surface. Moreover, the screen for online entertainment is bigger than in the economy class, and the catering is upgraded.

“The new direct route as well as the new cabin class will provide both business and leisure passengers between Cape Town and Vienna an exciting new travel experience. Furthermore, this reinforces the Lufthansa Group’s commitment to connecting South Africa to our European home markets; unlocking trade, tourism, and economic opportunities,” he says.
