South African cricket legend Jonty Rhodes demonstrated that he's not just about wickets and runs when he recently joined the Regent Racing team as a co-driver in the Gold 400 - the final round of the Absa Off Road Championship - on the West Rand last month. Making sure that everyone knew he was there, vehicle branding and transit media specialist Graffiti was responsible for the rebranding and personalising of the SA Warranties Nissan Navara which Rhodes shared with South African champion Archie Rutherford.
Rhodes is the fourth celebrity to join the Regent Racing Team who has partnered with the SA Off Road Championship in an effort to market off road racing to a wider audience. Celebrities such as SA cricketer "Vinnige" Fanie de Villiers, Springbok rugby player Stefan Terblanche and Paralympic swimmer Natalie du Toit have all participated in the various off road events with the Regent Racing team to date with Terblanche and du Toit even scoring a top ten finish in their races!
Regent Racing Team Principal Terence Marsh, himself a former professional cricketer, believes the inclusion of the popular sports personalities has generated a great deal of excitement and interest in the off road sport. "We selected some of South Africa's sporting greats to join us in the navigation seat in the hope that, by experiencing the hands-on thrill off this action-packed sport, they would ultimately take their experience home with them as ambassadors for off road racing."
