Construction industry invests in converting waste products

An increasing number of Pilot Crushtec International's products have been bought specifically for recycling purposes.

This development is especially evident in the construction industry where waste products can be easily converted back into usable materials. Two customers in the Western Cape Province typify a trend which, to coin the old saying, is literally turning 'muck into money'.

Brick manufacturer, Patin Trading, recently took delivery of a Pilot Modular BR0605 horizontal shaft impact crusher that will be used to convert reject or obsolete product back into usable raw material at a rate of up to 35 tons per hour.

Saving costs

Civils and construction contractor Martin & East has adopted a similar take for road building. The purchase of a MI3030 impactor will enable the use of building rubble to be used as filling material in road building projects. This innovative approach not only removes waste but also saves the cost of quarrying new material.

National sales manager, Nicolan Govender, sees the move towards recycling, which effectively began in the Western Cape but is expanding nationally, as a fact of life in modern day business. "Recycling is the most economically efficient means of waste disposal. It converts waste back into raw material with minimal energy consumption, reduces the need to exploit shrinking natural resources and makes irrefutable business sense," he says.
