Matshaba joins North West FM

DJ Chris Matshaba has returned to the airwaves. Commercial radio station North West FM announced this morning, Wednesday, 26 August 2009, that Matshaba, who made a surprise exit from Motsweding FM in March this year, has been recalled after public demand.
Matshaba resigned from the Motsweding FM drivetime slot earlier this year after a fallout with management. North West FM saw an opportunity to grow its popularity and head-hunted this talented DJ.

Matshaba confirmed his appointment at the station, saying, “I am very excited to be joining the station, this was solely a business decision and it will give me a good turn-around strategy within both broadcasting and advertising industry, I plan to have fun yet share constructive information with my listeners.”

Listeners can tune into the Movement show from September on NWFM.

Sebata Media, co-founded by Matshaba, has been appointed as the preferred agency to handle advertising and marketing for North West FM.

This is the real Ben M. Dikobe.

I would like to place it on record that I have never made any posting on Bizcommunity regarding Chris Matshaba's impending employment at NWFM. I have never even had a discussion with Mr Matshaba on this or any other matter, since his departure from Motsweding, save for brief pleasantries exchanged at one or two social gatherings.

I have chosen not to respond to various unfounded lies and allegations previously made against me by Mr Matshaba in particular, following his decision to terminate his contract with Motsweding.

This posting in question is a violation of my personal rights as it seeks to present a picture that is completely untrue and in contradiction to my opinions and views. I see this as a cheap publicity stunt and would like to appeal to the professional courtesy of whoever may have made that posting to dessist from doing so with immediate effect.

While I agree that Chris is a telented individual, I have also held the firm belief that no individual is indespensable, and that there shall always be an inexhaustible pool of good, great and brilliant radio talent. Team Motsweding has always had an uncanny ability to discover, develop and introduce great radio talent and will continue to do so even after my departure as Station Manager.

01 September 2009 is the date when such new and brilliant on air talent shall be unleashed...

What happened between you and Matshaba is stil a mystery and if none of you want to put up a brave face and tell the public the truth these allegations will hold forever. The best thing that you could do to save your reputation and already tainted image just spill the beans bro Ben. I know you're the man of highest intergrity and you will do everything in your power to act in accordance with protocol. So in a nutshell I'm saying that you should set the record straight and ultimately put an end to allegations and white lies that (according to you) MR Matshaba is busy disseminating. Its not really fair to judge since neither Chris or Dikobe is willing to come clean and tell everyone what really happened. Knowing them both personally and knowing what really went wrong, i think its jst not fair. I cannot tell what really happened coz its not my place. Actually I dnt know what's the fuss over Chris cos to me he's just an average jock that doesn't kill it when coming to the radio...The guy is just as loud as an empty tin and I never saw any difference he made in Motsweding fm during his three or four year spell. All he did was bragging about himself and dissing others who were on top of their game thru talent and skills. He badmouthed Ba2cada for being loud nd wara wara but jst luk wht happened to him...jerr that was so quick bro....Can u jst imagine dropping from the top to lower level....At least now NW listeners will be the only ones subjected to your rot....Motsweding fm is better off without you man in fact you never added any value in here cos you're indispensable like Bra Ben put it in his orevious submission. guys,unfortunately for some of us nothing will change how we feel about Chris,Ben knows that he made a big mistake that is y he never spoke to Chris before and after the staff mtng that caused a stir,i was there and my heart was so sore for what Ben did to Chris,i have been with Ben for ages and he does not listen,currently he is everything...station manger,programs,music manger,marketing manger, i would like to confess that this was an impulsive decision that Ben took and he did not want any advise, nobody wants to work with him,our marketing manager is leaving,evry1 who has alternative will definately leave,those who do not know will continue respecting him until u know him,with us we are helpless and noone can help our situation.i respect Chris for what he stands for,as much as I am a producer I know majority of staff here @ work respect Chris for what he did,he has guts

Guys I'm really shocked by how you level unsunstantited claims and accusations against Mr Dikobe for your selfsih reasons. Firzt of all I don't know dis Dikobe dude in person but some of the things he's being accused of do not hold water and it's absolute rubbish that deserves to be thrown into the black plastic bag. Let us remember that Dikobe is the one who moved Chris from weekend show to a prime time slot becuase he believed that through necessary training and mentoring this big headed dude could be a gem but he messed up and went astray. Who do you blame now? The dude apparently poked his nose in matters unrelated to him and that's how he angered the master who then took a radical decision that most struggle to digest.

So to all ex employees of Motsweding(specifically those who are bitter) don't try to act smart on us by attributing your failures to Ben. The guy was employed by SABC on the basis of merit and not of favouritism. Please spit those sour grapes, they must be awful without a doubt. To be honest I think you are Ben disguised as Junior. All I have to say is where there is smoke, there is fire and what I have heard about Ben thus far and the immature comment accusing Chris in a public platform paints a very bad picture. In case you have not noticed the title of this article is "Matshaba joins NWFM" but for some reason this has been turned into a promotional piece for the boring Motsweding.

Wherether you like it or not some of us have not listened to Motsweding since his departure and we are surely migrating with him. Check the Aug RAMS because your station does not even feature in the TOP Station in Gautend anymore and the numbers leave much to be desired.

I must congratulate Sbongile on a job well done because during her tenure at Motsweding the numbers went beyond 3 million.

Who do you think you are?... The truth is North West FM is full of "kak". Besides of Chris being good, but what about other presenters?. We are just tired of male presenters every corner. Now even Sundays?. Anyway ICASA is on its way to my understanding. Mismanagement, and overlooking of women.

You are on a defensive and tarnishing mode. You defend Ben and tarnish anyone who dares voice their opinions about him and you are trying without success to paint a certain picture about Chris.

Stop worrying about Chris, the boy is making money. He was interviewed on YFM not so long ago and Sbu could not stop raving about his success, business wise that is. Radio is not his life, he just loves it and is in it for fun. I know he is respected by anyone who has ever come in contact with him which is the complete opposite of your "god" Ben.

As for the LSM issue you never very well that you're from the family background that boasts about such lower levels. But when will these new radio stations start unearthing new talent?we need a breath of fresh air,there is just a lot of talent out there but they are overlooked because of Programmes managers's convetional thinking,that to lure listeners,a station has to appoint the tried and tested.if you tune to a staion like Radio 2000 with all the big names and compare to a regional radio station like capricorn Fm with a majority of new presenters,you will comprehend what I'm talking about,same can be said about Metro fm vs Gagasi fm.Not that i doubt Chris's capabilities,I am certain he will bring the energy and vibe that is currently lacking at North west fm,I just feel that new talent is what today's radio needs.Remember when YFm started(1997),it brought about new blood and listenership was huge Posted on 28 Aug 2009 16:32

I think you have a point there but i also feel that new talent should be unleashed from community radio to PBS/ALS and later commercial radio,that is exactly the trend that Matshaba followed,i personally know Chris and people mistaken his character for something he is not,he is a young man who is really intimidating because he knows the radio business,I think listeners should not be drawn into his politics with Ben even the staff members understands that these came as a surprise because the two gentleman used to be close until something that both of them know happened,For Ben i know he is also very vocal and understands the radio industry very well,so the two gentleman were actually a great team but sometmes people do not realise what they are capable of until something happens.

I will like to congratulate Chris for the new job as it also entails business and congratulate Ben for his work so far.

News that Matshaba will join North West FM came as no surprise to me. This talented guy is a well-rounded DJ and Motsweding should have done everything to keep him. Well done NWFM!. You've landed a big fish in Chris. He surely will rock the airwaves. NWFM knows how to take business decisions that make business sense. As for Motsweding, they'll continue boring the crap out of me and those who are like-minded. I always take my CD's with me to listen to them while driving home every afternoon. take yesterday for example people walked out 3hours before the end of watever they thought they had planned. motsweding has lost the plot its old and boring diproducer tsa teng they are young mara old at heart sho i dont even believe the 3mil story it doesnt add up or that was before Chris left letting go of chris was the biggest mistake u ever made. ke mang a batlang go reetsa mme Lebo tota.people want to relax unwind. It's funny-
Hahah iyooo am really shocked by how some peeps turned to be worshipping some god radio overnite. The dude that you are so obseesed with knows exactly what drove him out of Motswedding and it's just that seeing that his radio career is fading he's resorting to throwing cheap tantrums on Mr Dikobe. Ego has ruined broadcasting careers of many promising djs who thought that the stations didn't exist without them and now they're known the has-beens prematurely. Just to give you few examples that you might now of, Chilli M(Yfm), KCI(Umhlobowenene), Tshepo Maseko,etc.

Anyway it's not a suprise that he decided to go revive his fading radio career in a regional station that is plaqued by gross mismagement and women abuse. It suits his character to associate himself with the station that is known for being in support of women abuse. I suppose it's the case of birds of the same feather. Women Abuse & Mismagement. ICASA please help!-
Yes, honestly speaking management in North West FM is surely abusive, and mostly when coming to women. Apparently there are only few female radio presenters. To my knowledge only 2 i.e Lerato and Dinah. They are surely good presenters, I mean if you used to listen to Dinah's show on Sundays, you'll agree with me. Even though the show was this good, it seems the management hijack the show and give it to Chris. Another this is that other presenters are limited to a 30 seconds talk, whereas Chris can talk up to 4 minutes and take calls as well. Juring the week there are only male presenters, I mean what about these ladies. Sooner or later ICASA will have to step in for justice I think. Posted on 7 Sep 2009 13:20

Ok,let us educate you Junior,i am a bit concerned about your knowledge about Mr Chris Matshaba,yes i said Mr Chris Matshaba because the man that you are talking about is a radio businessman and i am one of his goverment client,to be precise my name is Fred,Chris is currently the CEO of a company that manages 40 community radio stations in the country ,of which 10 of them i use them on a monthly basis,his knowledge on radio does not end on air as a dj,he is programmer,media director and a radio sales guru,therefore being on air does not mean anything to him except that i believe it is just a call/passion.

This man's radio carrer started long before with the likes of my comrades TC AND Given Mkhari. i am also touched to see people like Skhumbuzo Mbatha of Thobela FM commenting and congratulating him because they know him as much as i do.If you hate Chris we do understand but do not assasinate his character and take us for fools because we work with him on a daily basis but you were just a mere listener who was fooled by his on-air presentation,be careful what you say because we know Chris the radio businessman and you know Chris the DJ so if you hate him it is ok but dont hate the game he is playing.

I am concerned that you want to PUSH people to comment negatively on this platform,if you are not happy with Matshaba then dont follow him or his radio career,comment on other things that you feel are much better.

Chilli M -if you did not know ,this man is now a renowned Durban Entertainment Businessman,promoter and he is back on the radio hosting the show called East Coast Flavour on East coast Radio and we do listen to him here in Durban,so he is not down and out like you said MR KNOW IT ALL.
Tshepo Maseko-is doing well in the movie industry and three months ago they shot a movie and his Isidingo career is still on track,he is also doing very well with his label
Kci- i cannot comment much about him because i was not following his career that much.I was working with Ben here at P4 in Durban and i know why he left us because they could not let him destroy our station,Ask him why he left Metro since he is your freind..he cannot maintain relationships and he is easily threatend so i am asking myself who this Chris Matshaba is,this platform has made me think maybe he is a man of his word that iswhy there was this fallout.I have began to respect him before i meet him and i wish to meet him or listen if he was not broadcasting in setswana (i am zulu)
My point is that gone are the days tsa bo Ben Dikobe when radio was your daily bread and nothing else that is why other lazy radio jocks will have no alternative but to be moved around like monkeys in the zoo,radio is all they have and they MUST sing praise to the allmighty Manager irrespective of the ill-treatment.
It does not mean because you have power you are smarter than others but it means you have more authority over others but still you are not above the law,it always catches up with you.

Hi, Guru! Newspaper articles reported that some senior radio personnel within Motsweding FM saw Mr. Dikobe's resignation as "good ridance". That suggests that the problem was much deeper than meets the eye. I have a feeling that most DJ's were just too scared to confront Mr. Dikobe, thus a relieve at his resignation.

To aswer your question, I can say that Chris is vindicated (if newspaper reports are anything to go by). It does not seem like he was the only one that had personality clashes with "Big Ben".
