Chris Meyiwa was appointed as the MD of Gagasi FM in 2010 on a three-year contract and played an instrumental role in developing Gagasi FM as one of the leading entertainment brands in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Now, four years later, Meyiwa has announced that he will be embracing a different challenge and will be leaving Gagasi FM at the end of June 2014.

During his tenure, Gagasi FM has come to be regarded as a major player in the KZN radio broadcast industry and has become a prominent partner to the music and entertainment industry within the province. "I've had an incredible journey with Gagasi FM. I'm extremely proud to have helped grow and develop the station into what it is today," says Meyiwa. Meyiwa joined Gagasi FM after a successful 17-year career at South African Breweries, where he managed a number of regional business centres, including the strategically important Soweto area.

Meyiwa has worked tirelessly to develop the talent pool within Gagasi FM and will be handing over the reins at the station to Vukile Zondi who was recruited by Meyiwa in 2011. In order to ensure a smooth transition, the two will jointly manage the station from 1 April 2014 until 30 June 2014. Zondi will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Gagasi FM and Meyiwa will provide strategic support and guidance.

Zondi has spent many years in the radio broadcast industry, having previously served as the programming manager at youth orientated radios stations YFM and 5FM. It was while completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Law) degree at the University of Johannesburg that the radio bug bit. Zondi subsequently played an active role at the campus station UJFM. "I am incredibly excited by the opportunity and look forward to working with the talented and dedicated team that has been assembled at the station," says Zondi.

"We would like to thank Chris for the hard work and dedication he has shown over the last four years. Chris has played an invaluable role in developing the Gagasi FM brand and we wish him well in his future endeavours. We would also like to congratulate Vukile on his appointment. We believe that he is a highly talented individual and perfectly embodies the values and ideals of Gagasi FM and its listeners," comments Peter-Paul Ngwenya, Chairman of Gagasi FM.
