Samsung launches despite global litigation

Samsung's latest rival to the Apple iPhone 4S launched in SA this week as Samsung and Apple continued their patent lawsuits.
The two smartphone market leaders were fighting an estimated 50 lawsuits globally, said patent expert Florian Mueller, who said in April that settling this "planetspanning dispute will be a Herculean task".

The Galaxy S3 smartphone went on sale officially in South Africa, and in 27 other countries. Apple asked a court in San Jose this week to include the S3 in another case to be heard on June 21. Apple is seeking to block sales of the S3 in the US.

Samsung South Africa MD Deon Liebenberg said Samsung believed Apple's actions would only disrupt consumer access to the latest mobile technology.
