The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) confirmed that there is only one applicant for the .africa Top Level Domain (TLD), namely UniForum SA, the organisation officially endorsed by the African Union.
UniForum SA, trading as Registry.Africa, is now officially acknowledged as the only Registry Operator bidding for the .africa TLD. If successful UniForum will be allocating names to the public such as "example.africa".

Another bidder, DotConnectAfrica Trust, has applied for the .dotafrica TLD. This means, should they be successful, they will be allocating names such as "example.dotafrica".

ICANN will announce during the first quarter of 2013 whether UniForum SA has been successful in its bid for the continent's own TLD.
