V&A Waterfront wins Lilizela Award

The Lilizela Awards, which were held in Johannesburg on 9 October 2014, aims to recognise and reward those businesses who deliver a world-class product or service that propels South Africa's profile as a global destination.

"An environmentally secure future begins with present-day planning and practices," said V&A Waterfront CEO David Green. "We put significant effort into ensuring that we have effective, efficient and sustainable environmental practices in place in all that we do. Not to do so is to waste a scarce resource and it makes no business sense. This Lilizela Award proves that our efforts are recognised."

Partners of awards

The Lilizela Awards are an initiative of the National Department of Tourism (NDT), spearheaded by South African Tourism (SAT) and delivered by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA). Partners of the awards are Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (FEDHASA), the Provincial Tourism Authorities, and the Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur Awards.

The awards are adjudicated based on a weighting of consumer reviews from votes on the Lilizela Tourism Awards website, TripAdvisor, along with the deliberation of the judges.

The V&A Waterfront has also made the short-list in the World Responsible Tourism Awards this year, having entered in the Best Destination for Responsible Tourism category. The winners of these awards will be announced at the Excel Centre in London on Wednesday, 5 November. The Best Destination for Responsible Tourism Award is given to holiday destinations that set an inspirational and influential example for responsible tourism globally.
