The National Tourism Careers Expo (NTCE) was recently launched in Port Elizabeth. The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Tokozile Xasa, delivered the keynote address at the launch of the event that is open to tourism learners, students, graduates and educators, and takes place from 2 to 4 October 2014 at the East London International Convention Centre (EL ICC).

The expo aims to provide youths and learners with first-hand information and experiences about the various tourism careers, employment and business opportunities on offer at the NTCE.

Now in its sixth year, the expo will feature industry guest speakers; specialised experiential exposure to areas within the expo that will cater to each of the sub-sectors of tourism and hospitality, and a job placement and recruitment service during and after the expo. Private sector companies across the tourism value chain have been invited to showcase their offerings with a view to providing learners with a broad menu to making informed decisions about their future careers.

Employment and business opportunities

This event presents an opportunity for the tourism and hospitality organisations to promote and brand their companies whilst simultaneously affording tourism learners, students and graduates a platform for more exposure to the potential employment and business opportunities. Educators will also be exposed to well-planned seminars that have been designed to broaden their knowledge and understanding of tourism and to enable them to deliver the academic curriculum relating to tourism, travel and hospitality effectively.

Registration for the expo is free and open to tourism and hospitality learners in Grade 9 to 12, unemployed tourism graduates, further education and training (FET) and university students as well as educators and lecturers.
