Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane has accepted the resignation of MEC for Local Government and Housing, Humphrey Mmemezi.
Mmemezi announced on Wednesday that he was stepping down following a series of allegations made against him, including alleged damaging a government vehicle and the apparent misuse of a government credit card.

"Upon receipt of the letter of resignation, taking into account the due processes that unfolded, the Premier decided to accept the resignation and wishes to acknowledge the contribution Mmemezi has made in providing leadership in the sectors he was deployed, and wish him well in his future endeavours," the Gauteng Provincial Government said in statement.

In the interim, MEC for Infrastructure Development, Bheki Nkosi, has been appointed with immediate effect to act in that portfolio until further notice.
