Contingency plans are in place for this morning's march to the offices of the South African Civil Aviation Authority (Sacaa), says the authority.

The march, by the South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu), is set to take place today between 10am and 2pm. The union intends to hand over a memorandum to the Sacaa management at 12:30pm.

According to Sacaa, the union has not provided the reasons for the march.

"Management will learn of these reasons upon the handing over of the memorandum," it said, adding that contingency plans are in place to ensure that clients are not adversely affected by the march.

The Sacaa will endeavour to ensure that all services are available, however at a lesser scale. A skeleton staff will be put in place to manage all areas of the business.

"We appeal to clients to exercise patience as we try to provide the best possible service under the circumstances. This industrial action will have an impact on the ability of the organisation to operate at its normal rate. We recommend that clients keep their visits to our premises to a minimum on the day," Sacaa spokesperson Kabelo Ledwaba said.

Sacaa said it believes that any concerns that the union may have, could have been resolved through the multiple remedies available at the disposal of both parties.

"Notwithstanding, management still remains keen on having a vibrant labour representation and is committed to fostering sound relations with all parties in the workplace," said Sacaa.

The two parties will hold a meeting on 17 June.

Sacaa is an agency of the Department of Transport.
