Tertiary students pledge energy-efficient lifestyles

South Africa's tertiary students across campuses recently showed themselves as the green generation when they embarked on a national energy efficiency pledging campaign.
Kick-starting their 2013 on a green note, students at the University of North West took part in the 49M Green Campus Movement, which aims to mobilise students across the country to lead energy-efficient lifestyles.

The 49M Green Campus Movement, launched during the orientation week, had hundreds of students interacting with 49M ambassadors on energy-efficient matters and pledging their support for 49M.

Andrew Etzinger, 49M spokesperson, said that the Green Campus Movement was in line with 49M's strategic intent to penetrate South Africa's young market as the key drivers for social and behavioural change.

"One of the key drivers for energy efficiency is the enjoyment of outdoor lifestyle. Through this campaign we hope to get youths to embrace outdoor living and green culture," he said.
