ProNutro partners with HIP2B2 to present iTHINK Challenge

The HIP2B2 iTHINK Challenge powered by ProNutro, which is implemented across all nine provinces in conjunction with the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), is a major initiative kicking off National Science Week, the Department of Science and Technology's (DST) annual science awareness week, which runs from Saturday, 28 July until Saturday, 4 August 2012.

Over 7 000 Grade 8 to 12 students participate in the fun and educational challenge, which presents a variety of science and maths related tasks, riddles and problems in a similar style and format to the hit television series, The Amazing Race.

"Our events are 100% fun, but it's all in the name of promoting Science and Maths, which have proven to be key to developing entrepreneurial skills and analytical thinking," says Cathryn Treasure, managing director of HIP2B2.

    Maths behind food science

This year, participants will have the opportunity to experience food science first-hand and the maths behind it, courtesy of new partner ProNutro. Exposing high school learners to the many careers that a solid grounding in Science and Maths can lead to is a fundamental part of HIP2B2's mission, and with ProNutro on board to create a working food lab for the challenge, participants will get exciting first-hand experience of what food technology is all about.

The Role of Science in Economic Development is the theme for this year's National Science Week, and is directly in line with the HIP2B2 brand's core objectives. "All South Africans must play a role in nurturing young minds to embrace Science, Technology and Maths as this is pivotal to the economic prosperity of South Africa," says Treasure.
