The Polana Classic Car Rally, now in its 60th year, and comprising 26 classic vehicles, will depart from Centurion on Women's Day, 9 August 2012, on a three-day drive around South Africa, ending up at Maputo's Polana Serena Hotel.
Every year experienced motorsport guru Rene Booysen puts together an exciting road-only route and this year the route spans three days, 1100kms and goes through two countries. The Monte Carlo-style format gives participants the opportunity to soak up the sights while maintaining a healthy dose of competition.

Departing from Centurion, the group will continue through Delmas and Leandra before stopping over for lunch at the Graceland Casino in Secunda, thereafter continuing through to Standerton, Volksrust and then overnighting in Newcastle. Day two tours through KwaZulu-Natal, kicking off from Newcastle on to Utrecht, Louwsburg, Vryheid and Pongola. After passing through the Golela Border into Swaziland, a quick lunch stop on the Big Bend will see the drivers through until they pass through Goba Border into Mozambique. Goba Namaacha Boane will be the final stop before the rally officially finishes in front of the Polana Serena Hotel.

A day of fun and fumes

Classics such as the 1961 Austin Haley Sprite, 1966 MGB GT, and 1966 Valiant Baracuda will be put to the test as drivers show off their motoring skills. The event rounds up with a day of fun and fumes at the Maputo Racetrack, with drivers showcasing what these time-tested motoring machines can do.

The three-day excursion culminates in a prize-giving event at the Polana Serena Hotel Ballroom, at which winners are acknowledged and participants congratulated.

Booysen, the rally organiser, concluded: "The Polana Classic Rally is more than just another motorsport event. The rally is a celebration of everything that motorsports stands for: camaraderie, adventure and passion for the sport and its origins. By touring through small towns with these classic vehicles, we share an experience that some people never get to enjoy and also make people aware of the family fun and excitement associated with the sport."
