Slight dip in new car sales

The South African new vehicle market was down 2% on August but slightly stronger than September last year according to the National Automobile Association of South African (Naamsa).
During September 55 111 new vehicles were sold with VW Polo and VW Vivo dominating the passenger car market and Toyota Hilux leading the light commercial section.

Ford Motor Company of South Africa outperformed the export market with a growth of 8% over the previous month compared to 6% growth by the rest of the market.

The Ford Ranger, in particular showed strong growth with 1272 sold locally and 3378 exported during September. In the passenger car market the Figo again performed well with 1179 units sold. Mazda BT-50 sales grew 43% during September, only its second full-month of sales since launch

Equally, while the passenger car market slowed 2% on August, FMCSA car sales grew 5% driven by yet another strong Figo month (1179 units sold).

September sales were again strongly boosted by government and car rental company sales.

3. Nissan NP200 1380
4. Ford Ranger 1272
5. Toyota Quantum 1 161
6. Isuzu KB 1 158
7. Nissan NP300 Hardbody 960
8. VW Amarok 483
9. Mazda BT-50 257
