Caroline Leisegang to return to Circa on Jellicoe in May

South African classical musician Caroline Leisegang is set to perform at the Circa on Jellicoe gallery in Johannesburg on 10 May 2018. This will be Leisegang's first official performance in Johannesburg since 2016 and the audience can expect a special and intimate concert performed by the composer.

One of the youngest classical composers in South African history and winner of the iTunes Best Of 2015 Award for Best Classical Album in 2015, Leisegang raised the bar on classical composition not only in her home country, but in the rest of the musical world with debut release Øyeblikk in 2015, and her sophomore album Simple Circles in 2016.

From an early age, she gravitated towards classical music. After learning to play the piano at age six and picking up the cello at age 14, she was encouraged by her parents and peers to pursue her passion and she went on to study music at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).

She decided to leave Wits in her third year and went on to spend two years of studying at Trinity College of Music in London, one of the world’s most prestigious music colleges. At Trinity, she studied under Irish composer Deirdre Gribbin as well as the film composer and orchestrator John Ashton Thomas from whom she gained valuable insight into writing music.

She will be releasing her third album, My Body Of Preludes, later this year after a long battle with severe health issues that have kept her out of sight for more than a year. She has spent the last 13 months living in and out of hospital due to several illnesses which she is on weekly chemotherapy for and is currently waiting for a heart surgery.

Tickets are R175 per person and there will be champagne and treats for concert goers. Book your tickets at Computicket.
