The Baxter Theatre gears up for its New Year's Eve bash

The festive season programme is in full swing at the Baxter Theatre Centre, with a line-up featuring comedy, nostalgia and music, a brand-new children's show as well as the New Year's Eve party to welcome in 2016.

This summer there are four great shows to choose from - there's Alistair Izobell's Remembering The Lux, Stuart Taylor's 2015 in Revue, Platform 9 Two Park Station and for the little ones, Janice Honeyman's Bangalory's Back.

Bangalory's Back

Bangalory's Back is ideally suited for children aged 5 to 10 years. What'soninCapeTown described it best, saying "Bangalory's Back is a great way to introduce the little ones to the theatre". This show runs Wednesdays to Saturdays at 10am and 12pm.

The iconic Luxurama Theatre and the artists who performed there are celebrated in this brand new and first-ever tribute, written and directed by Alistair Izobell and Lara Foot and featuring a stellar cast and band. In Remembering The Lux, the dynamic cast bring to life its history and revive the heyday of this grand old dame of entertainment and cinema, through stories, memories, anecdotes and classic hit songs, which have been getting audiences on their feet with standing ovations at every performance.

The stellar ensemble comprises Izobell, Terry Fortune, Terry Hector, Loukmaan Adams, Niesha Abrahams, Leslie Kleinsmith, Giempie Vardien, Nur Abrahams and Kashiefa Blaauw, accompanied by a six-piece live band, led by Donveno Prins.

Stuart Taylor, Oscar Petersen and Mel Jones take a comedic look at 2015 - the highlights, the lowlights and the lack of lights in the brand new comedy Stuart Taylor's 2015 in Revue.

Fresh from scooping the Standard Bank Ovation Award for comedy at this year's National Arts Festival, Taylor brings local audiences the hottest and most topical comedy offering over the festive season. It is a feel-good comedy show - from stand-up to comedy sketches and special guest comedians, join the hilarious team as they say goodbye (and for some, good riddance) to 2015 and bid a warm hello and welcome to an amazing 2016. The show is at 8.15pm Mondays to Saturdays and runs until 9 January.

Following the success of their 2013 hit production Platform 9, local television hunks Maurice Paige from Isidingo and Theodore Jantjies from 7de Laan once again team up with director Christo Davids (also of 7de Laan-fame) to present this sequel Platform 9 Two Park Station. Two friends travel from Cape Town to Johannesburg by train and along the way they encounter some really interesting and funny characters. It is a heartwarming and side-splitting story about friendship, trust and human relationships. The show runs until 16 January.

New Year 's Eve

The festive fun will culminate with the New Year's Eve party which takes place after the performances on 31 December, when audiences will converge on the Baxter's foyers to sing, dance and party into the new year with some of the their favourite stars. All the shows will start later on the night and ticket prices will be varied to include the show, a complimentary glass of bubbly or orange juice and a traditional balloon drop, with a live band led by the inimitable Nur Abrahams who will sing perennial favourites.
