Performing Arts & Arts Management programme launched

Call to all Community-based Theatre Groups: Strategic Intervention Programme to empower, develop and create employment for the Youth.

The Joburg City Theatres' Youth Development in partnership with Drama for Life is launching a strategic intervention programme called Introduction to Performing Arts and Arts Management. This programme will empower the youth artistically, develop their business skills and ensure that they create employment within their own communities.

The programme is an outcome-based programme that encompasses business and artistic practical projects where the participants will have to produce a production, market their shows and their entire organisation, build an audience/market, maintain proper business records and administration.

Four theatre organisations from different regions of Gauteng will be selected through a process of auditions and interviews to participate in this three year programme. The programme has three levels over three years.

Each level combines workshop-based and on-field training over a period of 10 months in a year. Five months spent in workshops at Joburg Theatre and 5 months on-field for practical implementation and profile building.

All community-based theatre groups from all regions of Gauteng are invited to collect application forms from Joburg Theatre at the box office/reception. Forms must be returned by 19 February 2014 and must be accompanied with the group's profile. Each group must prepare a 5-15min presentation of their performance. This is open to all performance groups (dance, theatre, music, poetry) except visual arts groups.
