United States farming company SBH Farms chairman Stephan Rogers said it was not possible to work "like this" on the farm, the newspaper reported. Rogers' brother Alan, 61, and his girlfriend were attacked on the farm Gelu, near Ladybrand this week. Rogers said their ability to make a difference was increasingly hindered by crime. Rogers represented a group of investors from the US and elsewhere who had taken a chance by investing in South Africa. "We invested for the long term in the tourism and agricultural sector and brought in millions of dollars in investment to create work in Eastern Free State," Rogers told the newspaper. "Thefts occur weekly and even more regularly. Our lives are in danger. It is not possible to work like this." Alan Rogers, who suffered lacerations and stab wounds, was in a stable condition in the Bloemfontein Mediclinic yesterday. The attackers tied up his girlfriend, but did not harm her.
