Lions tackled the Boks

6 Jul 2009 10:213 commentsBizLike
The Lions finally sunk their teeth into the Boks this weekend past winning a respectable 23-9. Springboks coach Peter De Villiers said that they learnt something from this weekend even though they lost. I'm confused, what did they learn exactly? That it's ok to make ten changes to a team who had previously won, or fail to recognise that the starting team this past Saturday was not as strong as they should be. At this point I can honestly say South African rugby misses Jake White!
“How do you know (that we have the right team) if you do not take those kind of chances. I thought we did a good thing for ourselves, we learned how to go forward into the Tri-Nations, we learned a good thing today,” said De Villiers.

So if I understand correctly, what Peter De Villiers is saying is that it's ok to lose. Even though we are world champs and we have some of the best players in the world! Surely we will gain more experience if we win. S.A.R.U. will probably be asking questions sooner or later because South Africa is asking questions about the competence of our “new” rugby coach!

Why include a player in the Bok side and play him in a match where you know the other team are looking for revenge. If you are going to include a “new” player to the side make sure there is a Bakkies Botha or a Skulk Burger there to help the “newbie” move through the ranks. Don't send a new Bok to face a revenge seeking pride of Lions. The outcome will be exactly as it was this weekend.

So now what happens with the upcoming Tri-Nations? Are we ready? Now the media hype of the Confed Cup is over all focus will be on The Springboks and even more so, on Peter De Villiers!

Biased Article.-
Please remember that Coach Peter De Villiers has an extensive record of success with SA rugby. He has been producing great candidates for Team Selection during the Jake White Rugby Era.

Please view his past records, you will notice multiple trophies for the under 21's , and under 23's. Without good coaching, at mid-level, your cream of your crop might be sour...

To add to the 3rd Game loss to the Lions, SA already won the Tour. Why push strong SA team to overkill, when your the next player on the bench is unexposed. What do you think is going to happen one day when the Worlds best Line-out pair Victor n Bakkies are both injured, and have to send newbs out on the field who never smelled the grass in ages.

So, for juniors to lose to superior Lions team on the Day, has bared fruit for new players, who gained experience money cant buy. This can generate depth from the bench. There is always a bigger picture.

Let Peter De Villiers do his magic and stop being so negative. sheesh. Posted on 7 Jul 2009 09:07

Go Back and analyse-
Your analysis of Peter de Villiers is one sided. if you have been following him you would understand that the first goal was to win the serie which he did and then secondly give other players a run and finalise his team for the trinations. you must remember Injuries often cost a lot of teams because they don't plan properly now what Peter is doing is building a pool of players that he can look to when ever a situation that would require a replacement arises. so please before writing know your game and facts. Thanks for the Comments-
I'm sorry if I caused a mini up roar between certain bok supporters, trust me I've analyzed every fact of the game from past to present. My concern is not the past in most of my articles whether it's rugby, soccer cricket etc it's the present. After crushing the All Blacks this weekend I started to see the new light in PDV. On the flip side I'm ecstatic to see South African's (I think it's comments from S.A) defend their national team and country. Just like you had your opinion on my article am I not allowed my free opinion on whatever I want?? But maybe you guys are right

P.S If you a soccer fan, i.e Barclay's League fan...... I'm stating before hand that I'm a scouser by blood, scouser by heart. So don't expect me to be objective!!!

Thanks for all the comments guys, and yes I will give Peter De Villiers a chance... just like I did for Rafa Benitez

Keep the comments going
