Now in its sixth year, the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup is the largest one-day charity polo event in the world and is specifically held to raise money for Sentebale - a charity founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso to assist Lesotho's vulnerable children. To date, the event has raised over R60 million for Sentebale and, once again, all proceeds of this year's polo cup will go to the charity.
This year's event will take place two days after the opening ceremony of Sentebale's Mamohato Children's Centre in Lesotho - the first centre of its kind in southern Africa that will provide children affected by HIV/AIDS with the best care available. Val de Vie Events was selected to organise this event.
Prince Harry will join Sentebale ambassador, Nacho Figueras on the Sentebale ISPS Handa team and they will be up against the likes of Royal Salute ambassador, Malcolm Borwick on the Royal Salute team. Three Val de Vie Polo Club members will also take to the field for the match.
Val de Vie has become well known locally and internationally as a prime polo destination, with full equestrian facilities, a riding arena and two immaculate polo fields kept to Hurlingham standards. Since its inception in 2004, Val de Vie has experienced tremendous growth and has launched a number of new property developments. It has received international awards for a number of these developments and the security it offers its residents, including the title of Safest House in Africa for its Polo House.
Val de Vie established its own polo club in 2007 and the game has since become intrinsic to the estate's lifestyle. Polo games are played three times per week from October to April and a wealth of high-end events, including the BMW International Polo Series, the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo, and the Cintron Pink Polo are regularly held at the estate.
