Societi Bistro celebrates worldwide bistro with 21 menus

Societi Bistro in Gardens, Cape Town will showcase 21 menus, each only available for four days, featuring worldwide bistro menus and cuisine. From 28 March-8 September 2018, head chef Robert Giljam will present modest and traditional meals from around the world paired with South African wines.

The menus will offer meals like spicy citrus chicken from the Caribbean, lamb kofta from North Africa, pork belly teriyaki from Japan, Cambodian lime marinated beef salad, spicy blackened beef salad from Louisiana, and Hui Guo Rou, a twice-cooked pork dish from the Sichuan region in China. The restaurant’s signature dishes will also be available with menus from Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal offering well-known dishes such as Paella, Zuppa di Peace, Saltimbocca, Boeuf Bourguignon, Bouillabaisse, and Moules au Cidre.

The owners of Societi Bistro, Peter Weetman and Tammy Botbyl, have travelled extensively and wanted to share their culinary discoveries by creating an armchair travel experience through staycation cuisine.“The reason we selected these regions is to experience the contemporary definition of a bistro, having evolved into any rural food served in an urban environment. The regions were broad brush stroke of rural food made popular by chefs feeding city dwellers approachable fair - think Anthony Bourdain. Many chefs have gone on from cooking shows to travel shows with a strong rural slant” comments Weetman.

Simple bold flavours with an honesty that appeals to city-slickers searching for some authenticity is what inspired us,” added May.societi.co.za
