BP Express has partnered the Cape Town Carnival and 12 of the country's top designers to create couture collections to be showcased at the Cape Town Carnival's fashion show to be held at the V&A Waterfront on 18 March, 2010.
The show will mark the inauguration of the carnival weekend - congregating the who's who of South Africa's fashion industry to watch models take to the runway in one-off creations.

Each designer will showcase his interpretation of the Cape Town Carnival's 2010 theme: Rhythm Roots and Boots, with seven over-the-top Carnival Couture garments.

Post event, designers have all donated one Carnival Couture garment that will be auctioned off later in the year to strengthen the Cape Town Carnival Trust Fund.

High-profile names

High-profile names involved in the event include: Kobus Dippenaar, C-Squared, Carducci Women, Hip Hop, Paul van Zyl Couture, Malick, Elbeth Gillis, Craig Port, Zinzi Couture in conjunction with Uwe Koetter Jewellers, Hendrik Vermeulen Couture, House of Monatic, and Rosenwerth.

Joe Mahlo, head of marketing at BP said: “With things hotting up ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, we are very excited to be involved in this celebration of SA talent. BP Express is about convenience and we are making it convenient for those in the fashion world to showcase their creativity. We see the Cape Town Carnival as the perfect kick-off point for 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa celebrations.”

Breathtaking talent

Isabel Meyer, CEO of the Cape Town Carnival said: “We were delighted when Kobus Dippenaar approached us with the idea of Carnival Couture. The event will showcase the breathtaking talent of our designers during Carnival weekend, as well as give them an opportunity to give back to the community.

Numerous jewellers from the Victoria and Alfred Mall will have their signature pieces on display at the show, and will add some extra sparkle to the runway models. Additionally, the South African Ostrich Business Chamber has sponsored ostrich leather and feathers for each designer.

Diesel-powered generators

All 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa stadia will run off BP Ultimate diesel-powered generators for the duration of each game. In addition, all broadcast power used during the month-long event will also originate from these BP-fuelled generators - ensuring uninterrupted viewing worldwide.

Tickets cost R120 per person. The show will take place at The Lookout, V&A Waterfront (on the roof of Aston Martin) 7.30pm on Thursday, 18 March.
