In the shadows of a Stellenbosch vineyard lurks a hairy, gleaming-eyed monster called Spoegwolf (Spitting Wolf). The monster, seeking world domination, isn't scary at all - unless, of course, you're terrified of Afrikaans folk-rock. The band of four recently released a video for Lenie Blou and, it being their first video, described the process as incredible, long, and tasting like Powerade...
A scene to match each verse
Produced by Echo Ledge Productions, Lenie Blou was directed and edited by Matthew Griffiths: "My vision is always to enhance the song with imagery and then to try to create something unique, which stands out and is watchable, over and over again. With Spoegwolf's track they made it easy with their visual, descriptive lyrics. We created a scene to match each verse. The song naturally leant itself to editing with overlays and letting one shot flow into another. Hopefully this will mean the audience will want to watch the video more than once!" said Griffiths.
Honoured to walk here
Spoegwolf don't have much to complain about in SA, apart from the flies - and are really proud to "share this holy ground" with David Kramer, Valiant Swart and Bernoldus Niemand. "We are but honoured to walk here," said Spoegwolf.
Currently they have three free tracks available for download on their Facebook page. If you're hoping for more, hang in there: "We are looking to record a winter album sometime in June (if our ship comes in!). We have a lot of songs that sound stormy, we wouldn't want to let them out in the cold," said the band.
Spoegwolf are Danie du Toit on lead vocals and guitar, Chris von Wielligh on guitar and vocals, Albert van der Merwe on bass and vocals and Moskou du Toit on drums and vocals.
