Urban dance teams compete to be Red Bull Beat Battle Champions

Eight crews battle it out at The Blue Room in Joburg's Park Station on 19 November, 2011, for the title of 2011 Red Bull Beat Battle Champions. The competition features a wide range of urban dance styles, from pantsula, hip hop, krump, iSbhujwa, and B-boying.

The competing teams are: Afro Tribal Dance Movement (freestyle), Artistic Intelligence (hip hop), Genesis Kings (krump), Real Actions (pantsula), Royal Fam Kings (krump), Shakers & Movers (pantsula), Soweto's Finest (iSbhujwa), and Ubuntu (B-boys). All were selected through a rigorous process and are widely recognised in each of their respective genres.

The crews will be given the opportunity to work with some of the best choreographers and producers in the business, with South African choreographer, singer and actor Somizi Mhlongo taking the lead in helping them produce their pieces for the final. There they'll be judged on their style, creativity and overall crowd reaction.

Call to enter for 2012

Following the 2011 final in November, Red Bull Beat Battle will expand into a national call for entries and qualifications to give all South African dance crews the opportunity to show their stuff. Eight of the best crews from around the country will then be selected from the qualification round to battle for the 2012 Red Bull Beat Battle title.
