New visual arts magazine launched

The launch of the visual arts publication The South African Artist Magazine has been met with great enthusiasm from professionals and hobbyists alike.

The South African Artist Magazine aims to encourage, instruct and inspire every artist, from beginners to full-time professionals. The magazine deals specifically with the visual arts and content includes profiles on South African artists, both established and emerging. Practical demonstrations, features on materials and equipment, and general information which will be of interest to people of all ages who are involved in the visual arts.

Practical advice

The March/April 2012 issue profiles four excellent local artists Kim Donaldson, Anthea Delmotte, Makiwa Mutomba and Karen Fortune. This issue includes plenty of practical advice such as How to get your art out there, 10 top tips from a professional artist, and technical questions and answers. There is also a step-by-step demonstration on how to paint eyes by Pretoria artist and teacher Willie Jacobs and a discussion on the magic of watercolour by well-known artist John Smith.

There is a competition where one artist will win cash and prizes totalling R10 000 and get their work on the November/December 2012 issue cover.
