Mandela Day celebrations with magazine vendors

As celebrations and community service initiatives around the world celebrated Mandela's 91st birthday on Saturday 18 July, City Sightseeing Cape Town responded to Mandela's call by making an imprint on the lives of a group of the Big Issue magazine vendors.

Early Saturday morning saw members of The Big Issue, the magazine's vendors, City Sightseeing, FusionDesign and media joined together for a trip, known as the red route, around the Cape Town city. These men and women were able to take time out from standing on street corners and at robots around the peninsula because City Sightseeing bought 67 copies of the magazine that these vendors would ordinarily have needed to sell to provide for their families.

“We're proud to be contributing to our local Cape Town community by participating in Mandela Day in this way. These men and women work hard to earn an honest living to sustain livelihoods for themselves and their communities and today we acknowledge their contribution, we reward their hard work and we show that we care for our community and each person in it. We wish this great man a very happy birthday and thank him for contributing to a better South Africa and a better world," said Claus Tworeck, CEO City Sightseeing Cape Town.
