23 February 2013, was the official opening of the luxurious Boardwalk Hotel, Spa and Convention Centre. TechRig was proud to be part of this event and provided The Boardwalk with key technical solutions needed to ensure the success of the event.
The Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World is situated in Port Elizabeth adjacent to the Nelson Mandela Bay beachfront in Eastern Cape and has recently launched their new hotel, spa and International Convention Centre, which is part of the Sun International Group South Africa.
The main aim was to create an event that would not be forgotten for its class, elegance and endless highlights of the evening. TechRig was responsible for lighting, sound and AV for their outdoor launch and dinner event.
The brief for the outdoor launch was to accentuate the fountain/lake area, TechRig had to light up the performance stage and the main stage. "We used spots and washes to create depth and side light the dancers in order to work with the Black and white costumes, Gobo projection was used to create a 'living' pattern on the costumes," said Lighting Designer, Johnny Scholtz. The latest fixture which is the Clay-Packy Sharpie was used for the aerial beam work and impact for the show. TechRig showcased and created an elegant event through their expertise, meticulous planning and the best equipment brands.
The following equipment was used to create the endless highlights of the evening:
For lighting, 1x GrandMA full-Size Lx desk, 6x Martin Mac 700 wash, 6x Robe Colorspot 700E AT, Robe Robin 600 LED, 6x Clay-Packy Sharpies, 6x D.T.S Jack moving head and 2 x Clay-Packy shadows follow spots. For AV; The Barco HD20 projector was used to display the video's and live feeds on the spectacular water-screen. For the audio; TechRig used 9x LR14 line-array enclosure, 4x Alcons LR14 Base Enclosures, 2x Alcons VR12 and Shure Microphones.
"This was easily the most glamorous event that Eastern Cape has ever seen and it was simply a treat. The Premier Noxolo Kiviet and the Deputy Minister Thoko Xasa were ecstatic about the event," commented Bongi Siwisa, Chairperson of Emfuleni Resorts.
