Giant wind chime to promote wind energy, lobby government

As part of the Ogilvy Johannesburg and Greenpeace giant wind chime to lobby the government to consider wind energy as a source of renewable energy, people are being asked to sign not a petition, but a piece of bamboo to form part of the chime. Greenpeace aims to start collecting the chimes and petitioning for signatures during COP17.

, There will be a temporary installation at the Greenpeace tent to hang up the chimes.

The final installation, which will carry over 20 000 signed bamboo chimes, will be constructed in Durban next year after a series of fundraising efforts by South African artist, Strijdom van der Merwe.

The agency will also be sending a few chimes to media houses around Johannesburg for signatures. For those who cannot attend COP17, they can add signatures via the website www.greenpeace.org/africa/en/Use-Me-More for transcription onto a chime. Follow @WindSouthAfrica on Twitter for updates on the petitions.
