Luanda International Jazz Festival is proud to announce that the venue of the inaugural event is the Cine Atlantico instead of the Convention Centre, which was initially earmarked, but is unavailable. The festival has spent the past two weeks redesigning the Cine Atlantico venue into a world-class entertainment facility. Attention has been given to structural and leisure detail. It's not only about the music but also about the whole Angolan experience of food and lifestyle.

This festival takes place over three days on Friday 31st July, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2009 and will bring together 12 jazz and jazz-related musical groups under one roof.
The producers of the prestigious Cape Town International Jazz Festival, espAfrika, have been appointed by Ritek to produce and manage the inaugural festival. This includes the contracting of suppliers, facilitating the venue arrangements and overseeing all logistical requirements.
There is synergy between the Luanda International Jazz festival and Cape Town International Jazz Festival as Ritek is a principle Gold Sponsor in Cape Town.
António Cristóvão, festival director and CEO of Ritek which is organising the first jazz festival in Luanda, said, “The mandate given to espAfrika was to ensure that the training and development of skills required is transferred to Ritek and their Angolan team in order to stage the event in its entirety in the next five years. The Luanda International Jazz Festival will be an Angolan brand that will attract cultural tourism and contribute to the economy of the country. Music workshops focusing on youth and jazz scholars will be introduced in the days leading up to the festival.”
