Exercising the stupid muscle

Issued by: Don't Forget George Events & Production
When Acceleration approached Don't Forget George Events and Productions to handle their annual conference, the mandate was simple: inspire interaction, reinforce brand values, and enlighten and stimulate employees. DFG applied creativity to purpose and generated a series of interrelated events geared to exceed the brief.
Between the 18th and 22nd of August 2008, Acceleration employees were privy to DFG's unique approach to corporate conferencing - to embrace the unexpected, the unusual and the insanely sane.

What is the single most abundant natural resource in the world? Stupidity of course. Peter Greenwall, a thinker of ridiculous proportions, believes in stupidity as a platform for innovation - Logical Stupidity.

Greenwall's theories on the utility of stupidity formed just one aspect of the conference's ‘edutainment' factor. Gavin Mills (MD, DFG) and Peter joined minds to script ‘Logical Stupidity' - A Quest for Innovation. The concept was communicated through a musical styled seminar with an extremely unusual, theatrical based platform. The message: Don't dis stupidity. It may well be the birthplace of innovation.

The performance, held at the Labia Theatre, questioned all norms and turned perceptions on their heads. Greenwall offers up an equation for innovation based on his theory:

Innovation = R&D (Rehash and Disguise) of the COC-UP (Centre Of Confusion inside a Universal Problem) to suit your DNA (Dreams ‘n Aspirations)

The showcase saw actors milling around in the audience, applying make-up and undergoing costume changes. Acceleration staff learnt that you should embrace everything that drives you insane. Your emotional sewage can be, and should be, recycled into creative projects. Confusing? Maybe. ‘Edutaining'? Definitely.

Acceleration staff also participated in a TV-style game show designed to narrow the gap between employee and employer. DFG, true to form, paid equal attention to formal conferencing, hosted at the spectacular BoE Conference Centre on the V&A Waterfront, and social elements. Delegates spent a night on the town at Cape to Cuba and enjoyed a wrap-up lunch at Moyo Spier.

The five days passed in the blink of an eye. Brains worked, friends were made, and words were re-invented. Whoever says a work conference is a time to sit back and catch up on some shut-eye, has obviously forgotten George. According to client feedback, DFG can proudly claim responsibility for a truly beneficial intervention.
