Potters Hand Activations orchestrates SABC News' inaugural Community Media Awards event

One of the decisive and definitive factors in securing this contract was the fact that Potters Hand could deliver on an enormous amount of logisitical and communication criteria in such a short period of time leading up to the actual Awards. These premiere awards were the first of its kind in the industry with SABC leading the way - grounds that called for a true celebration! The overall objectives of the Community Media Awards were:

• To encourage all community media to go beyond the call of duty and produce news and current affairs that meets the highest standard and also recognise their hard work.
• To reward and recognise excellence in journalism in the community media, i.e. radio, television and new media.
• To entrench SABC News' commitment to enhancing journalism as a career in the South African public and embracing of the SABC's Vision of Total Citizen Empowerment.
• To enhance SABC News' reputation as a worthy custodian of the public's right to know.

The lead-up to the event entailed reaching all national community radio stations for their call for entries; a fair and unbiased judging process followed by the finalists crowning the evening with their presence at the Awards Ceremony. On the night 300 VIP guests were invited to a glittering function themed “Inspirational Africa - We Inspire!” that took place at Theatre on the Track where no expenses were spared when it came to event décor, technical expertise and superlative entertainment. The event was recorded live for SABC broadcast. This year's event focused mainly on broadcasting and it is hoped that in the years ahead this event will grow into a broad Community Media Award.
