Tamar Kahn won the ‘Discovery Best Health Journalist: Analysis and Commentary’ award for ‘Why Motsoaledi’s health insurance plan seems set to fail’. The category was adjudicated on “clarity and originality of style, sound reasoning, depth of analysis and understanding and the power to influence public opinion.” Kahn’s other work that contributed to her receiving the overall ‘Health Journalist of the Year Award’ included South Africa’s closet deals between doctors and drug makers, amongst others.

Alistair Anderson won ‘Property News Journalist of the Year.’ Brian Azizollahoff, chairman of the Sapoa Property Journalism Awards for Excellence committee said, “The judging panel are very strict in ensuring that the best journalist wins this category, as the criteria here are more stringent than in the others. Of all six entries received in this category, as a panel, we felt that Alistair Anderson’s submissions were the best.”
