V&A gets new events venue

New multi-purpose venue Workshop 17, situated on the water's edge next to the Craft Market at the V&A Waterfront, will be operational from 1 October 2006. The venue will be adaptable to suit almost any occasion, from a five-star gala dinner to an intimate music concert.

The venue consists of a 1000m2 main arena, 110 m2 foyer area and 150 m2 mezzanine area, as well as a coffee shop and cocktail bar at the entrance. The venue houses a versatile catering facility and onsite production offices.

Full technical support will be at hand with state of the art lighting, sound and audiovisual services. Other accessories such as staging, sets, draping and décor will also be available from the inhouse production company.

Says Workshops 17's Mark Wilson, "The venue has enormous potential and is positioned perfectly in the heart of Cape Town. Not only is it centrally situated but any event taking place there has exposure to a number of the 22 million visitors to the Waterfront each year.

"Workshop 17 will boost the very limited options available to those looking for a medium-size venue within the city bowl area, with all of the appropriate infrastructure in place."
