Usain Bolt graces Stuff magazine cover

As a tribute to the Olympics, the July-August South African issue of gadget magazine, Stuff, has the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, on the front cover - a first for the magazine.

Themed 'Power Up', the issue is dedicated to the Olympics and the technology involved in it and behind athletes' performances. Editor, Toby Shapshak, says with the upcoming Olympics, Bolt was the best choice for the issue, given his accomplishments and the anticipation of what he will achieve in London.

"Bolt is the fastest person alive and we are excited to have him on the cover. A lot of people have asked us when we will have a man on the cover and this is the appropriate time and person," he says.

Ingenuity and personal tenacity

The magazine's Olympics special also features local athlete Oscar Pistorius, who is an example of how engineering ingenuity and personal tenacity can overcome disability.

"We pride ourselves on making technology fun and easy to understand for both our male and female readers and hope this issue will be informative and interesting," adds Shapshak.

With the magazine's circulation reportedly growing by an average 25% year-on-year for the last two years running, Shapshak remains confident the title will continue to do well. The ABC report for October-December 2011 showed a growth 31.88 % growth from the previous year and up to 26 000 copies.

The July-August issue goes on shelf this week.
