Jet Club magazine leads the pack as readers soar to 3.3 million
Issued by: The Publishing Partnership

AMPS (All Media & Products Survey) figures show that Jet Club, the magazine distributed by South Africa's number one retail brand, Jet Stores, has enjoyed phenomenal readership growth over the past four years.

With just short of 600,000 readers in 2003 Jet Club readership jumped to 1,8 million in 2004, 2,3 million in 2005, 2,6 million in 2006 and is now firmly entrenched as South Africa's most widely read publication with an impressive 3,3 million readers (AMPS 2007B), over 1 million more than its closest competitor.

Jet Club is published by The Publishing Partnership (TPP), a leading Cape-based retail contract publisher, printing over 21 million magazines annually. Tammy Gardner, publisher of Jet Club says TPP's focus on connecting with clients' customers through engaging content is at the heart of Jet Club's success. “Jet Club magazine isn't just about clothes and fashion advice but meets the needs of more and more readers who want information that will assist them in making quality decisions regarding their personal finances, careers and parenting for example. We have a strong community feel, addressing topical social issues and offering our readers relevant and useful advice which has helped us to achieve readership levels well beyond our circulation.”

Highlighting the importance of readership versus circulation when looking at custom publications, Ms Gardner adds, “With consumer titles, the circulation figures (ABC) are meaningful because people are choosing to buy them. With custom titles, the readership figures (AMPS) are significant, as delivery to a home does not necessarily mean that a magazine is read. When one considers that Jet Club's readership figure is three times the print run it is clear that Jet is succeeding in delivering content that is relevant to a broad and growing audience.

Jet Club editor, Thandi Gweba is delighted with the great strides that Jet Club magazine continues to make despite the challenging market conditions (AMPS showing a slight a decline in total magazine readership countrywide). “Our dramatic readership increase is all the more impressive when compared with many mainstream publications,” adds Ms Gweba.
