Student wins radio show

Ursula Cronjé, a 21 year old media studies student at the University of the Free State, is the winner of OFM's recent win your own radio show competition, which was promoted in the OFM Greatest Hits Volume II CD released end of last year.

Cronjé did her show on Wednesday, 14 February 2007, and kept listeners in central South Africa glued to their radios as she played her favourite music and presented the OFM Sundowner programme.

Cronjé's dream became a reality when she bought a copy of the OFM Greatest Hits Volume II CD. Inside was an information pamphlet that invited people to enter the competition by sending a SMS to the station's competition number. Entrants could enter as many times as they liked and Cronjé says that she sent nearly 20 SMS's alone, as she desperately wanted to win.

To make her task on-air a little easier, she was assisted by a professional team of experts. Eloise Pretorius, Angie Khumalo and James Kilbourn from OFM showed her how to compile the shows music list, how to work the sound desk and how to compile the programme. She even had a few practice sessions behind the microphone.

Cronjé admits that she was very nervous when she took over the ‘hot seat' from Tim Thabethe, presenter of Tim Time, but everything went smoothly and it was a wonderful experience.
