    Springboks support Pretoria day-care centre

Springbok rugby players Bakkies Botha, Jan Serfontein and Trevor Nyakane recently visited the CMR Derdepoort day-care centre in Pretoria where they donated R15,000 from their internal players' fund for children, families and communities in need.

The day-care centre is one of the projects run by CMR North, of which Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is the custodian. Most of the people living in these areas are very poor with limited potential to better or upgrade their circumstances.

"As Springboks, it's always very special to be able to give back to people who are not as fortunate as we are," said Botha. "These kids also have hopes and dreams and to see the wonderful work done by CMR is very humbling. It would be very special if we can make a difference in the life of only one of these children. We want to thank them for the opportunity to visit the day-care centre and wish them well for the future."

    Service to communities

CMR Derdepoort renders services in communities such as Bergtuin, Derdepoort, Jan Niemandpark, Kilnerpark, Koedoespoort, Môregloed, North-East Pretoria, Queenswood, Waverley and Waverley-East.

Their programmes run from Mondays to Fridays every week. The day-care centre moved to new premises where 20 underprivileged toddlers between the ages of three and six years can learn and play every day.

The services in this project have been ongoing for the past 13 years, which include assessments of traumatised children, therapeutic services to these children, foster care and adoptions and are run by specially trained senior social workers.
