'Sunrisers' gather to sing and dance at Menlyn Park

The first Secret Sunrise in Pretoria was held recently at the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre. The location was kept secret and was only disclosed two days beforehand. On arrival, people were given wireless headphones and partook in an interactive dance session that involved yoga, meditation and dancing, while watching Pretoria wake up to a spectacular sunrise.

The early-morning sessions are a perfect platform to bring people together and create a greater community spirit. ‘Sunrisers’ sing, dance, stomp and hug, enjoying themselves in a safe space where the expression of emotions is encouraged.

“The Menlyn Park Shopping Centre has always been a place for all walks of life to meet and enjoy the wide variety of food, fashion and entertainment that is on offer all year round,” said Andrea de Wit, marketing manager of Menlyn Park Shopping Centre “and the Secret Sunrise was just another great initiative on offer at Menlyn.”

A wonderful way to start the day

Cheryl Hudson, co-organiser of Secret Sunrise Johannesburg, said that the increasingly popular ritual is a wonderful way to start the day and also to enjoy your city in new and beautiful spaces. “We’ve hosted events in Joburg and had amazing sunrises on rooftops, parks and in the city,” she said. “With the success we’ve had with previous events and the many requests, Pretoria was chosen to be part of this growing movement, and what better place to host it than the trendy Menlyn Park Shopping Centre?”

“Secret Sunrise is a great way to step out of your comfort zone, be ridiculous and just have some fun, which resonates with our customers at the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre,” added De Wit. The session was hosted by whacky instructors, with the theme ‘The Bright Side’, and participants made a fantastic effort arriving in their most colourful outfits.
