Pick n Pay Heroes Week goes big this February!

The Heroes Week initiative aimed at celebrating South Africa's unsung school Heroes took place in schools across the country this February.
The campaign, supported by a radio station initiative on South Africa's most celebrated regional radio stations - East Coast Radio, Kaya FM, Algoa FM, and OFM - in four regions has received a great deal of support from the public.

Heroes Week celebrates youth who inspire and motivate. The activation is rolled out on the ground with teams visiting selected schools across the country and treating them to an "assembly bust" which is broadcast live on air.

The Pick n Pay School Club team and reps from the regional radio station invade a full school assembly where the hero of the day is honoured in front of his peers.

The radio breakfast shows encouraged moms, teachers, school friends and communities to nominate a young hero, who has inspired or motivated them in a special way, and to recognise and reward this hero at their school.

Selected schools were also given trees to plant as a pledge to remain environmentally aware. This ties in with Sustainability, which is one of the pillars of Pick n Pay School Club, and a national priority.

The Pick n Pay School Club team annually hosts a number of special events aimed at celebrating notable achievements by learners in schools across South Africa.

This year the Pick n Pay School Club will deliver 30 000 tons of educational material to 2 500 schools across South Africa. The programme, which celebrates ten years this year, reaches over 1.8 million South African learners annually.
