Originated and managed by the Innovation Hub, the competition is aimed at Gauteng-based researchers and entrepreneurs that have the desire to become global leaders in the medical, green, ICT and biotech sectors.

Designer of the KUDUwave and MD of eMoyo, Dr Dirk Koekemoer said, "I am excited that the invention has been recognised by the awards. The value of entering the competition is not only in winning an award but also the added benefits such as networking with the other competitors. The incubation support I received from the Innovation Hub has already had a very positive effect on my company."

The KUDUwave is ideal for occupational health testing, wellness screening, diagnostic audiology and monitoring of ototoxicity. It is easy to operate and is designed to overcome environmental challenges while testing patients on site. No sound booth is needed and one person can test more patients within the same period, at a lower cost, than with traditional audiology testing methods.

Conforming to SABS requirements, the KUDUwave is ISO 13485 certified and carries the European CE mark.

Over the past three years, the Gauteng Innovation Competition and GAP Biosciences programme has attracted more than 300 entries and invested over R3 million in seed funding and incubation support into 13 start-ups in the ICT, green and biotech sectors.
