US embassy reviews use of Vietnam website

WASHINGTON, US: The State Department said on Wednesday it was reviewing the US embassy in Hanoi's use of a popular Vietnamese website amid concerns the site is riddled with pirated material.

The embassy had created a page on the popular Vietnamese-language website Zing Me "to deliver important messages on a range of... bilateral and multilateral issues, including intellectual property rights," acting State Department spokesman Mark Toner said.

"That said, I can say that the use of this particular site is now under review," he told journalists, because "some of the contents of this website are suspect and run counter to our Internet policy."

"Vietnam is a demanding environment for public diplomacy and for reaching appropriate audiences on any given issue - bilateral or multilateral issue," Toner added.
