TEAMtalk media shortlisted for 2009 Bookmark Award

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award. Judging by the popularity of the mobi site with our readers, mobile publishing is truly coming into its own,” said Barrie Jarrett, TEAMtalk founder and operations director.

The Bookmark Awards, launched last year by the Online Publishers Association (OPA), aim to benchmark the best in digital media, for both publishers and advertisers, while promoting digital as an integral part of the marketing mix. According to the organisers, the winner of the mobile publishing award will demonstrate excellence in mobile publishing and community development.

Earlier this year, TEAMtalk announced the launch of a raft of interactive mobile news services for South African sports fans. The company sees mobile phones leapfrogging the personal computer as South Africa's main way of accessing news, views and results from their favourite teams.

“While the current debate is around the PC-based Web's impact on print media, people are forgetting that in South Africa more people have access to a mobile phone than a personal computer,” said Jarrett. “And because people always have their mobile phone with them, this is an ideal way to communicate up-to-the-minute scores, breaking news and last-minute fixture and team changes to our readers.”

The winners will be announced at an event on Thursday, 12 November 2009.
