Zoopy.com launches daily video snapshots of public opinion

Called Zoopy Street Cam, the new internet channel is dedicated to capturing public opinion on a daily basis, across a spectrum of issues. From sport to movies, politics to crime, entertainment to technology, Zoopy Street Cam will cover South Africa's most talked about issues, by interviewing random people in random locations about their views on the topic at hand.

Some of the Street Cam interviews have included public reactions to the secret Robert McBride tapes revealed by the Mail and Guardian, responses to the news that Helen Zille will remain Mayor of Cape Town after the recent floor-crossing and even thoughts on the performances of contestants in MNET's Idols TV competition.

While the majority of Zoopy's photo and video content is generated and uploaded by Zoopy members, Street Cam is slightly different in that Zoopy does the filming themselves.

According to CEO and founder, Jason Elk: “We wanted to create a space on Zoopy that would represent the daily ups and downs of the people of South Africa, so we could look back over time and see a living archive of our history. But many people don't have access to video cameras or video phones, so rather than leave them out of the conversation, we decided to take our cameras to them. The important part is that they're still doing the talking, so it's still user-generated. We're just listening and sharing their opinions on their behalf in the new channel”.

Gerry Da Silva, sales director and co-founder of Zoopy, adds: “If South Africa's talking about it, Street Cam will cover it. But because Zoopy's about social media, not one-way media, the Street Cam channel is also open to users to upload their thoughts on the daily topics. If we're talking Jacques Kallis resigning, our video is just the start. Upload your opinions (positive or negative) and let's start demonstrating and sharing what we're all talking about in our living rooms at home and around water coolers at work”.
